September 30th, 2012

The San Mateo County History Museum continues “Free First Fridays” Nov 2, includes a preschool craft program at 11am & an adult tour at 2pm. Explore the museum, enjoy ‘Playing in the Past’ and a General Tour.
Playing in the Past Preschool activity hour starts at 11 a.m. An exciting hour of crafting, exploring and storytelling are held the first Friday of each month. Each month there is a different craft and story. The fun starts in the Wells Fargo Learning Center. Learn about Japanese traditions! Make a Japanese fan to take home. Then, explore the exhibit Land of Opportunity: The Immigrant Experience in San Mateo County where you can listen to the story Suki’s Kimono.

The History Museum is an innovative regional history center located inside the 1910 County Courthouse. On the National Register of Historic Places, the courthouse features a stained glass dome and mosaic tile floor. Architect Glenn Allen designed the building to look as impressive as City Hall in San Francisco. Featuring interactive experiences, the long-term exhibits are the place where you can explore the county’s rich and colorful history. San Francisco Magazine calls it a ‘Perfect Family Outing— Finally, a history lesson the whole family will enjoy…you’ll find enough interactive kiosks, video cameras, microphones, and learning-lab gadgets to keep a generation raised on video games alert and engrossed. via  San Francisco Magazine, The Best of the Bay Area: The Obsession Edition
