5 Thanksgiving Place Setting Ideas

November 15th, 2016

In many apartments in Foster City, California, Thanksgiving is celebrated by having plenty of people come over and then eating several courses of food together throughout the day or evening. The focus on the food naturally causes an accompanying focus on the table. This makes it important to give that table a special Thanksgiving look.

One of the easiest ways to give it a themed appearance is to use fall or Thanksgiving-themed place settings. Here are a few ideas for creating the perfect look.

Use Creative Placeholders

If you have enough guests over that you need to mark their places, you have an extra chance to be creative. Try marking each place with a miniature pumpkin, pinecone, or even a log slice. Add a homemade name card to finish the effect.

Tie Fall Decorations to the Napkins

Those who want to look a bit more formal will enjoy presenting each person’s napkin on top of their empty plate. This gives an opportunity to get creative with that presentation. Try tying a pinecone, leaf or other natural item to the center of the napkin. Use a piece of dried vine or a thin, dark ribbon to complete the effect.

Tie the Plates Together with Strips of Corn Husk

Many people present their Thanksgiving dinners as a series of courses, and this requires the use of multiple plates. Stack the plates from largest to smallest and then tie them all together with dried corn husk strips for an excellent presentation.

Make Your Own Placemats

It’s easy to vary the difficulty level of this project, so there’s no need to worry about it being too complicated. A basic DIY placemat can be made by simply cutting appropriately-sized pieces of fabric in your preferred pattern. If you’re more craft-oriented, try weaving placemats out of strips of dried vines or other natural materials. Either way, the end result will be beautiful and memorable.

Put a Foil-Wrapped Turkey-Shaped Candy at Each Place

The chocolate isn’t the real point of these candies. Instead, it’s the realistically-colored foil wrapper and turkey shape that you’re going for. These elements will add to the Thanksgiving theme, and you won’t have to do any work to get perfect results. Just don’t be worried about it when some of your guests immediately eat the candy! As long as everyone’s having fun, it’s all good.
