Preliminary Application for Occupancy
We are pleased you have inquired about our affordable housing program. Please follow the instructions to submit your name on the waitlist. We will follow up within 2 weeks after you submit your information to review the current tier status, application process and your eligibility for the Below Market Rent program.
The 60 affordable apartments at The Plaza are restricted to those households with very low, low or moderate incomes of no more than 50%, 80% and 120% respectively of the San Mateo County area median income, based on the number of people in your household. The maximum allowable rent is 30% of the income limit for the applicable income category as established by the California Department of Housing and Community Development(HCD), with an allowance for utilities.
- Tier 1a: Persons who are living in a Below Market Rate deed restricted unit in Foster City for a minimum of twelve (12) months that is subject to termination of affordability restrictions within three (3) years.
- Tier 1b: Persons who live and work in Foster City.
- Tier 2: Persons who live in Foster City.
- Tier 3: Employees of the City of Foster City.
- Tier 4: Classroom teachers who are employees of the San Mateo-Foster City School District, the San Mateo Union High School District and the San Mateo County Community College District.
- Tier 5: Persons who work in Foster City.
- Tier 6: All others who are income qualified.
