The Bay Area is world-renowned for its great scenery, fantastic people, and innovative atmosphere. Among the most recent headlines, officials in the area have pledged to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the area by 80%, and they would love to have you help them in their efforts over the coming years.

To join in the effort, you don’t need to sign a pledge or enroll in a program. All you have to do is change your lifestyle a little bit. Here are some easy tips you can incorporate into your life that will go a long way toward reaching this goal:

  • Drive less. Take advantage of BART and the fabulous public transportation system we have here in the region.
  • Change your lights. Replace your old bulbs with LED or other eco-friendly options that consume less energy and reduce landfill waste.
  • Recycle. It’s simple to do, costs you nothing, and makes a big difference in the amount of trash that goes into our regional landfills.

With a little research and some minor adjustments to your lifestyle, it is easy to go green in Foster City. Here are some easy ways you can green up your lifestyle and help Mother Nature keep our environment a bit cleaner.

  • Install energy-efficient light bulbs and fixtures. These may cost a bit more at first, but the long-term energy and cost savings more than make up for the added expense.
  • Turn your lights off when you’re not in the room or not at home. It’s a simple step that will really add up over time.
  • Install eco-friendly lamps that are made from either recycled or renewable materials. These are catching on, and you might as well get in on the trend early.
  • Unplug your devices and lamps when they’re not in use. Even though they are not on, they still draw energy from the socket. Unplugging them removes this problem from the energy equation.
  • Open your windows and use the light outside during the day to illuminate your apartment’s interior.
